Baggage Limits

As plane loads increase this summer, airlines are again cracking down on overweight and oversize checked baggage. Airlines have varying rules on the maximum size bag they'll allow on their planes. In general, a piece of luggage is oversize and a surcharge will be levied when it exceeds 62 linear inches that means height, width and length combined.

All airlines allow at least two pieces of checked baggage per person. No airlines will accept bags weighing more than 100 pounds - and Hawaiian Airlines has set its limit at 70 pounds. Beyond that, airlines have varying rules on how much a checked bag can weigh before it's slapped with an overweight fee. Special charges may apply to odd-shaped items such as sporting equipment.
